Sweet Remedy for Catarrh

02 November 2007

Catarrh is a common problem, affecting around 20% of the population.   Catarrh seems to be most marked in the 40 – 59 year old age group. There is some evidence to suggest that catarrhal symptoms are exacerbated by pollution, dust, a lifestyle associated with stress and processed food, being overweight, and an exposure to infections through living in a close society.

We’ve put away our summer togs, and dug out our winter ones. We’ve fired-up the boiler and switched on the central heating! The cold weather has returned, although one wouldn’t have thought that it had ever gone away, given the severe lack of summer this year!

With the cold season, comes the cold and flu season, particularly bad news for the elderly and the very young. We besiege pharmacies for tried and tested cold remedies. Have we ever stopped to think though, what a cold does to us, apart from making us miserable with a runny nose, swollen red eyes, sneezes and the other ‘downs’ associated with the season’s ubiquitous illness?

Having rid ourselves of the dreaded coughs and sniffles, how many of us attend to the resultant catarrh with which we’re left? The sticky secretion is at best annoying, and a mere irritant with which one could get by. However, at worst it can result in other infections, ranging from another cold, to more severe conditions such results in being given antibiotics to rid us of the nuisance.

Unfortunately, antibiotics don’t work on viruses that cause colds or flu and they’ll only affect the resultant catarrh if it’s due to a bacterial infection. There are ways, however, that we can avoid such trips to the doctors, as well as avoiding the trouble in the first instance.

Treatments such as reflexology are renowed to be effective in treatment of conditions such as sinusitis and catarrah build-up.  Another drug-free way is to begin treating the catarrh as soon as the cold/flu starts. Try starting a course of Kiwiherb’s organic, practitioner-strength formulation, Kiwiherb Marshmallow & Mullein Syrup (RSP £7.96 for 100ml & £12.93 for 200ml).

The product combines the herbs Marshmallow, Mullein, White horehound and Elecampane to provide a natural solution that helps ease the side effects of coughs and helps break-up catarrh, thereby lessening the chances of it developing into something even worse!

Kiwiherb Marshmallow & Mullein is said to deliver relief to dry or wet coughs, catarrh, chest tightness, cold-related breathlessness, wheezing due to bronchial congestion, and coughing due to persistent local irritation.  It’s suitable for all ages and particularly beneficial for infants with whooping cough. Sweetened with certified organic manuka honey you can take Kiwiherb Marshmallow & Mullein undiluted, or in juice or water.
